Adoption affects the birth parents, the adoptive parents, and the adopted children in many ways, some positive and some negative. Each party within this triad has many unanswered questions but discussing them helps to lighten the burdens for everyone.

Mary Muchiri and her adopted son share their journey and try to answer their individual questions. They hope to inspire all who are asking similar questions by comparing human adoption with the much greater and more lasting adoption into the eternal family of God.

You Have Been Chosen: The Identity of an Adopted Child

What makes the book stand out is its balance of pastoral care and theological clarity. Rather than offering simple platitudes, it dives deep into scripture, cultural expectations, and the emotional realities that often accompany infertility. In doing so, it becomes more than just a comfort but a guidepost for those navigating uncharted emotional terrain. It speaks to both men and women, but its tone and flow make it especially accessible for women’s Bible study groups, fertility support circles, or couples’ faith-based counseling sessions.

You Have Been Chosen by Dr. Mary Nyambura Muchiri is a heartfelt and faith-centered Bible study guide that speaks directly to couples facing the emotional weight of infertility and those considering adoption as a path to parenthood. Rooted in Biblical scripture and personal insight, this book offers both spiritual encouragement and theological grounding for those who feel lost, discouraged, or conflicted about the idea of building a family outside of traditional means.

This is not a typical nonfiction book with chapters of narrative. It is a devotional guide, thoughtfully divided into sections with key scriptures, reflective questions, and gentle encouragements.

Dr. Muchiri writes with a calm, empathetic voice, clearly drawing from her experience as a woman of faith and academic standing. Each entry is framed by verses and concepts drawn from the Bible, emphasizing that adoption is not just a legal or emotional decision but a spiritual calling endorsed by God himself.

From a film adaptation standpoint, while the book itself is not structured as a narrative, its themes offer strong inspiration for dramatic storytelling. The emotional weight, spiritual struggle, and cultural conflict faced by couples exploring adoption is ripe for screen exploration. One particularly powerful screenplay concept could involve a married couple in Africa struggling with infertility where cultural practices are relevant and against adoption.

Maybe, after medical consultations and mounting emotional strain, they begin to consider adoption, only to be met with cultural stigma and family resistance. Their journey toward acceptance becomes both a spiritual and relational transformation. It’s a story grounded in faith, love, and quiet courage. This could be an idea.

Another adaptation angle could be a docu-drama or faith-based documentary featuring real couples interwoven with dramatized segments, highlighting personal stories of adoption framed by scripture and interviews with Christian counselors. This format would give the book’s teachings a real-world voice and could resonate with audiences on platforms like PureFlix or Hallmark’s inspirational branch.

You Have Been Chosen is not a storybook, it’s a lifeline. For couples of faith walking through a valley of disappointment and doubt, it offers light, scripture, and the reassuring reminder that adoption is not second best- it is chosen, sacred, and holy.

Saved Through Fire: A Family Experiences Kenya's War of Independence

Paperback – January 13, 2005

by Mary Nyambura Muchiri (Author)

The colonial experience in Kenya has been documented in many places, but most often it is about the colonial administrators and the politicians, rarely has this documentation been about ordinary people and the dilemmas they faced. This book is mainly about our family and our experiences of the war of independence. It portrays individual and family dilemmas, thus giving the experience concrete faces. Normal human relationships between husband and wife, father and child and neighbor with neighbor are explored. The overriding theme throughout the book is the love and mercy of God as it works out in the lives of ordinary people. Every reader will find something to think about whether familiar with the situation or not.
